Making Waves for BAM!
Help Bam and Others Find Their Calm
You know how much the water means to BAM. His journey with water started in a plastic blue tub in the NICU. That early connection grew when he was two years old and his little toes first touched the ocean. From that moment on, the water has been a source of joy, comfort, and calm for BAM.
BAM is profoundly autistic, he has to navigate a world where he needs support in nearly every aspect of his life. He may never experience complete independence in the way many of us do but in the pool and in the ocean these are places where the constraints of autism seem to dissipate. Here, BAM finds the freedom to make his own choices, the autonomy to move his body as he wishes, and the independence to explore in any direction he desires. He requires no words, there's a sense of knowing, a predictability that transcends the need for him to communicate.
The Autism Society of San Diego provides crucial resources like water safety, adaptive swim lessons, and social events to ensure everyone has the opportunity to explore the water with safety being the priority.
Thank you so much for being a part of our lives and thank youfor your consideration to support this cause that is so close to our hearts.
All our love,
Bernard, Mary, and BAM
